Frank Lampard believes that it will take Chelsea “two or three months” to settle into life under new boss Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho’s men are currently fourth in the Premier League table after they earned a 1-1 draw at Tottenham on Saturday.

The Portuguese coach signed a four-year deal to return to the west London club in June after guiding the Blues to two Premier League titles during his first spell in charge at Stamford Bridge.

And midfielder Lampard feels that the Blues still need some more time to adapt to the new coach’s style.

“I think the manager has said it can take two to three months to develop, for players to follow a new manager’s idea,” said Lampard ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash against Steaua Bucharest.

“If you look at us in the league we’re in a good position. We obviously have to win games in the Champions League having lost one but that can happen any time.

“I really believe in the squad we have and the young players we’ve got, and it’s important now that we take the manager’s ideas on board. I have a lot of respect for him and I know he’s a winner, he’s shown that not just at Chelsea, and I think we need to bring that all together.

“It might be a matter of time in certain areas but I certainly believe in the squad that we can do big things. It’s easy to talk about it but we actually have to do it, starting from now onwards.”

• Steaua have conceded 346 goals in Uefa competition.

• Ramires returns from a one-game ban following his red card in the Uefa Super Cup loss to Bayern Munich.

• Chelsea have 11 points from six games this season, as they had in September 2007 when Jose Mourinho’s first spell at Stamford Bridge ended.
