French Open 2013: World No10 Caroline Wozniacki turns her attention to Eastbourne after a disappointing clay court season
Caroline Wozniacki says she is looking ahead to Eastbourne after a second-round loss to Bojana Jovanovski at the French Open on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old 10th seed was beaten 7-6 6-3 by the Serb in just over 90 minutes to cap what has been a thoroughly miserable clay-court season for the former world No1.
But Wozniacki is more optimistic about her chances on grass and is relishing the chance to play at one of her favourite WTA events before the challenge of Wimbledon later in June.
“Yes, it hasn’t been the best clay season this year. I guess it’s good that it’s the last tournament,” Wozniacki said.
“Obviously I would have liked to have played longer and played better. But it wasn’t to be, so now just go back and practice again and try to prepare for Wimbledon.”
She added: “I probably will most likely go to Eastbourne a bit earlier and get some longer practice in on grass.
“I really like it there. It’s a great tournament.
“I think it’s one of my favourites atmosphere wise, so I don’t mind going a bit earlier. I love grass.
“Every time I go I always feel happy and I’m excited to go and play on it.”
Wozniacki was beaten in straight sets by Kim Clijsters in her only Grand Slam final appearance at US Open in 2009.
