French Open 2013: Laura Robson could be a dark horse – Jim Courier

Two-time French Open winner Jim Courier believes Laura Robson could be a “dark horse” to reach the latter stages at Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old is set to take on former world number one Caroline Wozniacki, ranked 25 places above the Brit, in the first round in Paris.

Robson, who reached the third round of the Australian Open this year, has never faced the US Open finalist but can take hope from Wozniacki’s four-match losing run on clay.

“She’s a very talented player, she’s got a lot of natural tennis ability,” Courier said of the Olympic silver medallist.

“I’m very keen to see how she’s playing on the dirt and how she’s moving because to do well on clay requires agile feet.

“I think she could definitely be a dark horse to get to maybe the fourth round.”

Robson has beaten world number four Agnieszka Radwanska and seven-time Major winner Venus Williams in May despite splitting with her coach Zeljko Krajan after nine months.

And the world No35, who has never got past the first round in Paris, says she feels in good form and enjoys playing at the French Open.

“I always enjoy this time of year and, having previously spent a lot of time in Paris, it’s nice to be back,” said Robson.

“It is one of my favourite cities and the atmosphere at Roland Garros is always fun. I feel that I am in a good place and playing good tennis so I am looking forward to getting on the match court.”
