Fulham 1 Newcastle 0: Felix Magath convinced Cottagers can stay up
Fulham 1 Newcastle 0: Felix Magath hails an extraordinarily important victory in his side's bid to avoid the drop
Felix Magath stated that he is even more convinced Fulham can beat the drop after a vital victory over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage.
The west London side were bidding to secure their first win since New Year’s Day under new German manager Felix Magath, who replaced Rene Meulensteen in February.
I told you before the game that I’m convinced we can stay in the league. After this victory, I’m more convinced

Former Everton defender Jonny Heitinga came close to breaking the deadlock against the Magpies in the first half but his effort was not adjudged to have crossed the line after hitting the woodwork.
Newcastle were without manager Alan Pardew as he served the first of his three-game stadium ban for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler earlier this month.
The visitors tested Fulham goalkeeper Stockdale on a couple of occasions before Ashkan Dejagah scored the winner with 22 minutes remaining, helping the 20th-placed side to move within four points of safety.
“When you begin a new job, it’s extraordinary important you get a win,” said Magath.
“If you lose two games and have only one draw, you lose confidence. It was necessary for everyone that we had a win today so I’m very glad.”
The German added: ““I don’t care much about the other results as we have to do our own work.
“It wasn’t only the result today, it was the game we played. We were the better team and will give us confidence that we can avoid relegation and stay in the league.
