Brendan Rodgers urged Liverpool to stop making individual errors after the Reds secured a dramatic victory at Fulham.

Centre-half Kolo Toure, whose mistake cost the Reds a point in their last away game at West Bromwich Albion, deflected a cross past Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the eighth minute.

The visitors managed to peg the Cottagers back before half-time thanks to Daniel Sturridge’s 16th goal of the season, but Martin Skrtel’s errant clearance allowed Kieran Richardson to restore the home side’s lead with 27 minutes remaining.

Liverpool had 69 per cent of possession at Craven Cottage, and the Reds levelled thanks to Philippe Coutinho’s 72nd-minute shot before Steven Gerrard netted the winner from the penalty spot after Sturridge was brought down in added time,

“Steven Gerrard is peerless in situations like that. He showed brilliant composure. It was a great result. We’ve had to show character to come form behind twice. A brilliant victory,” Rodgers told BBC Sport.

On Liverpool’s performance, Rodgers added: “In the first half we were not quite on it in terms of intensity, and a mistake has put us 1-0 down. We then got a good goal, thanks to Gerrard’s marvellous pass.

“We raised the intensity and aggression at half-time. We’re disappointed with the second goal we gave away. This team has shown great characteristics mentally.

“We conceded two goals, that has been unlike us for a while. We need to eradicate the individual errors. Thankfully we have goals in the team.”

Asked whether Liverpool were back in the Premier League title race, Rodgers replied: “We’re going to keep pushing.

“We’ve shown enough times we’re a very good side. We’re chasing, other teams are still ahead of us. We need some of them to drop points.

“We know we still have Man City and Chelsea to play at home. We’ll take it game by game. I’m enjoying as a coach watching the team improve.”
