Lineker, Neville & more: Twitter reacts to Bale’s Madrid switch
Gary Lineker and Gary Neville both tweet their thoughts after Tottenham's Gareth Bale seals a world-record move to Madrid

Real Madrid have signed Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale on a six-year contract for a reported world record fee of £85.3m.
The Spurs winger, who scored 21 Premier League goals last season, will have a medical at Los Blancos before being unveiled at the Bernabeu on Monday.
Here is some of our favourite Twitter reaction as news of Bale’s departure broke.
Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto (@AssouEkotto) is going to miss his team-mate: “Bye bye my midfield good luck lol @GarethBale11”
Former Spurs chairman Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) praises his successor’s work in the transfer window: “Real Madrid confirms that Gareth #Bale is joining the Spanish club and has signed. Daniel Levy did well to get £90m for Bale. Untenable situation. Shown fans the money has been immediately re invested. Now down to AVB.”
West Brom midfielder Steven Reid (@stevenreid12) is happy to see Bale seal his dream move: “Delighted to see Gareth Bale sign for Madrid. #defendersunion”
Striker Danny Webber (@DanielWebber81) sums up the switch: “@GarethBale11 massive move!”
Former Manchester United striker Gary Neville (@GNev2) fears for the modern-day full-backs: “Bale/CR-throw at me sides with 2 good wide men, EG Portugal – Figo/ Ronaldo; England – Barnes/Waddle; Barca- Stoichkov/Hagi; United- Ronaldo/Giggs. Always remember Euro 2004 – had Ronaldo/Figo and Simao at different points in the game. Didn’t know my [email protected]@@ from my elbow!”
Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) offers Bale some friendly advice: “Wish @GarethBale11 all the very best with @realmadriden . A fabulous opportunity that any top player would seize. From someone who did something similar eons ago, one piece of advice: Learn Spanish. Communication is vital. His football will do the rest.”
Arsenal fan Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) sees the funny side of one message: “Unconfirmed > RT @SukhKhatkar Wow it’s finally happened! The biggest move of the summer.. @piersmorgan made it from the couch to the fridge!”
Former Real Madrid striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) reckons it’s a great deal: “What a deal all round. Spurs rake in a fortune, Madrid get a world-class player and Bale gets to ply his trade on the biggest stage of all.”
Finally, ex-England cricket captain Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) wishes Bale all the best: “Wish Gareth Bale huge success… You can’t begrudge a player the opportunity to join a Big club…”
