Roberto Mancini has been sacked by Manchester City after a three-and-a-half year reign at the Eastlands outfit.

The Italian led the Citizens to their first Premier League crown last season but his side struggled this term and suffered a 1-0 loss to Wigan Athletic in Saturday’s FA Cup final.

Here is the best of the Twitter reaction, from the professionals past and present, after the 48-year-old’s dismissal.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Ian Taylor (‏@IanTaylor7) breaks the news: “#Mancini gone……. #mcfc”

Swansea midfielder Wayne Routledge ‏(@WayneRoutledge) can’t believe the latest managerial change: “Mancini gone???”

Ex-Middlesbrough defender Gareth Southgate (‏@GarethSouthgate) isn’t liking the new trend: “Premier League had much higher average tenure of managers than other leagues. Last seven days must have blasted a hole in that.”

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan ‏(@piersmorgan) would welcome Mancini at Arsenal: “Mancini fired? Ridiculous. Wish we could have him at Arsenal, but he’s too successful for us.”

QPR shareholder Amit Bhatia (‏@Amit_Bhatia99) is shocked: “Mancini fired! #woah”

England legend Gary Lineker (‏@GaryLineker) isn’t impressed by the cruel timing: “12 months ago to the day Roberto Mancini helped #MCFC win their first title in over four decades. Tonight he has been sacked.”

Hull City striker Aaron Mclean (‏@A9Mac) feels City should be following Manchester United’s lead: “Are #UnrealisticExpectations ruining football? There’s a reason Man United are the top club in the country.. There loyal to their manager and stick together as a
club #LessonsToBeLearned”

United legend Gary Neville (‏@GNev2) feels sorry for Mancini: “Failing to achieve the clubs stated targets – I bet the incoming manager is thinking probably should rent rather than buy.”

Finally, former England cricketer Paul Collingwood ‏(@Colly622) reckons City are the ‘new Chelsea’: “So who’s gonna take over at Man City? Impossible job #mancini #newchelsea”
