Lineker, Owen & more: Twitter reacts as Martínez leaves Wigan
Gary Lineker and Michael Owen both tweet their thoughts after Roberto Martínez resigns as Wigan Athletic manager

Roberto Martínez has resigned as Wigan Athletic manager, with Latics owner Dave Whelan giving the Spaniard permission to speak to Everton.
The 39-year-old masterminded Wigan’s 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final earlier this month but he was unable to prevent the Latics from suffering relegation from the Premier League.
Here is a selection of our favourite tweets from the professionals after Martínez’s departure and his possible appointment at Everton.
Former Liverpool striker Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) reckons Martínez has quit the Latics with another job in mind: “So, Roberto Martínez has left Wigan. I can’t help but think he has another managerial job lined up. #everton #stoke So excited for next season’s Premier League already with so many clubs employing new managers. Expect plenty of player movement soon too… So it emerges Everton made an approach for Martínez last week. Great appointment if and when it happens but won’t be easy succeeding Moyes.”
Ex-Norwich City striker Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) expects relentless interviews, with Whelan on Sky Sports News now: “Martínez has gone then, you’ll never get Dave Whelan off Sky Sports News for the next few months now! #SpeedDialToSky”
Former Leicester City midfielder Robbie Savage (@RobbieSavage8) feels Martínez should stay and fight in Wigan’s corner: “So Martínez has decided to leave Wigan after taking them down, am I missing something here?”
England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) tips Martínez for Everton: “The old managerial merry-go-round shows no signs of abating. Martínez leaves Wigan, and is clearly Everton bound. Sound appointment for #EFC.”
