Gary Neville criticised Everton for their failure to perform against Liverpool in their 3-1 loss in Saturday’s Merseyside derby clash at Anfield.

The impressive Sadio Mane gave Liverpool the lead with his 13th Premier League goal of the season in the seventh minute at Anfield.

Everton Debutant Matthew Pennington equalised in the 27th minute with his first goal for the club, but Philippe Coutinho restored the Reds’ advantage moments later to send Jurgen Klopp’s side in leading at the break.

Divock Origi then netted in the 60th minute to put wrap up all three points for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Neville delivered his verdict on what he had seen at Anfield from both teams.

Neville said: “For Everton to come here and freeze is the last thing they wanted. They didn’t play well.

“I don’t think Liverpool were at their absolute best today but it has ended up being comfortable for them.

“Everton gave Liverpool far too much space. The service to Romelu Lukaku wasn’t great but you just expect more from him. It’s right that we demand more from him – he’s their star player.

“The Everton fans are disappointed and they want more than what they’ve seen today.

“From a Liverpool point of view it’s been perfect, they weren’t stretched too much and looked comfortable.”
