Neville, Owen & more: Twitter reacts after Cardiff sack Mackay
Gary Neville and Michael Owen both tweet their thoughts after Cardiff City sack Malky Mackay on Friday

Malky Mackay has been sacked by Cardiff City after a meeting with the Welsh club’s Board of Directors on Friday.
The newly-promoted side released a statement confirming that they will appoint Mackay’s successor as soon as possible after a 3-0 loss to Southampton on Boxing Day.
Here is a selection of Twitter reaction from the professionals, past and present, reacting to the Scot’s dismissal.
Ex-Norwich City defender Iwan Roberts (@iwanwroberts) gives us his thoughts on Mackay’s sacking: “Gutted for big Malky he can hold his head up high and leave with dignity. Horrendous working circumstances for him to work in! […] Malky took over and had 10 players he built a squad got them to the COC final lost on penalties to Liverpool, won the Championship by eight points […] Last season and have not spent much time in bottom three this season. Not sure where the owner expected them to be after spending £30m?!”
Crawley Town defender James Hurst (@hursty43) analyses the situation with a healthy dose of irony: “At least Malky Mackay’s job was made easy by the board.”
Ex-Chelsea midfielder Jody Morris (@morriskid) tips Mackay to take over at West Brom: “West Brom surely gotta look at Malky Mackay now??”
Former Liverpool midfielder David Thompson (@77thomo) isn’t impressed by Cardiff’s behaviour: “Malky Mackay sacked by Cardiff bad taste that!”
England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) is worried for Cardiff’s hopes of beating relegation: “Malky Mackay has finally been put out of his misery and sacked by Cardiff. Wouldn’t be surprised if West Brom have been lying in wait […] It will be fascinating to see who Tan now appoints. Anything could happen. Fear for Cardiff!”
Manchester United legend Gary Neville (@GNev2) gives his rather uneloquent thoughts on the sacking: ” RT ‘@Paul_leach89: @GNev2 what’s your thoughts on Malky Mackay being sacked?’ It’s all [email protected]@@E!”
Liverpool legend Michael Owen (@themichaelowen) feels sorry for the Scot: “I guess it was inevitable that Malky Mackay has finally been sacked. A real shame after doing such a great job at Cardiff City.”
Finally, ex-Norwich City forward Darren Huckerby (@hucks6dh6) reckons Mackay is better off now: “Malky is better off without them! #TanIsATool”
