Redknapp on Benítez: You’d have to be a real dope to fail at Chelsea
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp claims only "a real dope" would manage to mess up the Chelsea job
Harry Redknapp has claimed only “a real dope” would manage to mess up the Chelsea job ahead of Queens Park Rangers’ clash with Rafael Benítez’s men at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The Spaniard was appointed as Chelsea’s interim boss in November after Roberto Di Matteo was sacked by the Champions League holders following a disappointing run of results.
After a slow start, Benítez’s men are now on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League, including an emphatic 8-0 victory in their last home game against Aston Villa.
“You’d have to be a real dope to mess it up with [the likes of] Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Frank Lampard,” Redknapp told BBC Sport.
“He [Rafael Benítez] has walked into a squad of players there who are Champions League winners – you’ve got a chance, haven’t you?”
Redknapp, who replaced Mark Hughes as QPR manager in November, also backed the former Liverpool manager to be a success at Chelsea.
“He’s a clever guy,” said Redknapp of Benitez.
“Even in the West Ham game that they lost, they could have been out of sight at half-time.”
QPR were beaten 6-1 by Chelsea in the last meeting with their west London rivals at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League last May.
