QPR's Harry Redknapp says the Hoops' bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League is going to be hard but "not impossible"

Harry Redknapp insists Queens Park Rangers can still avoid relegation from the Premier League despite an emphatic 4-1 loss to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

The Hoops were torn apart by a ruthlessly efficient Swansea, who appear to be in good shape ahead of their Capital One Cup final showdown with Bradford City later this month.

Michu scored either side of half-time to take his tally to 15 Premier League goals, with Angel Rangel and Pablo Hernandez also netting, while Bobby Zamora scored what ultimately proved a consolation in the 48th minute.

QPR are now seven points from safety after Aston Villa’s 2-1 win against West Ham on Sunday, but Redknapp is drawing inspiration from his great escape with Portsmouth in 2006.

“It’s going to be hard, it’s going to be hard,” said Redknapp. “But it’s not impossible.

“I’m still confident. I know it is going to be hard. And I think it will go down to the wire, but it’s not impossible.

“It’s very similar to the situation I inherited at Portsmouth when we got out of trouble.

“I think that was down to the last 10 games and we got out of it at Pompey with 20-odd points in those games. That is what we need here.

“We have a chance if Remy can come in and score some goals and show what he can do, and we can get Bobby Zamora out on the pitch.”

QPR were handed a boost as rivals Reading and Wigan Athletic also suffered defeats on Saturday, and Redknapp insisted that he had no issue with extracting pleasure from the misfortunes of their fellow relegation candidates.

“They want us to lose and we want them to lose,” said Redknapp.

“That’s life. I can’t say, ‘Wigan have won, jolly good because I like Roberto’. I just go, ‘Thank God he got stuffed’.”
