Michael Owen is backing Manchester United to ease to a comfortable win over Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium on Sunday to keep their slim top-four hopes alive.

The Red Devils were held to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea FC at Old Trafford last weekend despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men being much the better side in the top-four clash.

Juan Mata broke the deadlock inside 11 minutes at the Theatre of Dreams but David De Gea’s mistake allowed Marcos Alonso to equalise and ultimately secure Chelsea FC a point.

Manchester United are in sixth place in the Premier League table and three points adrift of Chelsea FC, who sit in fourth spot and primed to secure Champions League football.

Huddersfield were on the wrong end of 5-0 rout at Liverpool FC last week as the promoted side head back down to the Championship after two seasons in the top flight.

Former Manchester United striker Owen doesn’t expect Solskjaer’s side to run into any complications at Huddersfield in their Premier League clash on Sunday.

“United have failed to win any of their last four games but I can’t see them slipping up at the John Smith’s Stadium,” Owen told BetVictor.

“The Terriers have only scored nine home league goals this term and no side in top-flight history has failed to reach double figures.

“I thought United improved on their performances of recent weeks at home to Chelsea last weekend and they must pick up maximum points in West Yorkshire if they are to have any chance of reaching the top four.

“Their destiny is out of their own hands but all they can do is pick up maximum points in their last couple of games.”

Manchester United have only managed to finish in the Premier League’s top four on two occasions since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.

The Red Devils ended up in second place last term but have regressed in the current campaign.
