Hugo Lloris’s new deal extremely good news, says Tottenham legend

Ossie Ardiles says Hugo Lloris’s new five-year deal is extremely good news for Tottenham Hotspur.

The France international has ended speculation surrounding his future by committing to a new contract which will see the shot stopper remain at White Hart Lane until 2019.

Loris had been linked with a move to north London rivals Arsenal last season, whilst Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain were reported to be tracking les Bleus’s captain.

And Spurs legend Ardiles was clearly happy to secure the Tottenham number one down to a long-term deal as new manager Mauricio Pochettino attempts to leave his mark on the club.

“Lloris is a wonderful goalkeeper,” Ardiles told talkSPORT. “It’s great news for Tottenham.

“He’s a new kind of goalkeeper. Lloris is not only good in the box, but out of it. He’s got a very liberal interpretation of what it means to be a goalkeeper and has great feet.

“It’s extremely good news.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Lloris revealed the role that Pochettino played in his decision to commit his future to Tottenham.

“I spoke with the chairman [Daniel Levy] and I know the club is as ambitious as ever,” said Lloris told Spurs’ website.

“It’s very important to feel at home at a club and for my family to feel well. I enjoy a great relationship with the club and the fans.

“The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino is important as well. I have a good feeling with him. He is also ambitious.

“Everything is clear in my head and if I’ve signed a new contract it’s because I trust the club and I’m sure we will progress in a positive way.

“Last season wasn’t the season we all hoped for but we were still able to finish sixth in the league. We know where we have to improve.”
