Bayern Munich and Inter Milan will contest the first ever Saturday night Champions League final at the Bernabeu in Madrid tomorrow.
Jose Mourinho worked under Louis van Gaal during the Dutch coach’s reign as Barcelona manager and the Bayern Munich boss publically alluded to the former role of the ‘special one’ in the build up to Saturday’s clash
“I think I educated Jose a little but he trains to win,” said van Gaal. “I train to play beautiful football and win. My way is more difficult.”
Arjen Robben, who has played under both managers, says he prefers the playing style that the Dutch coach has implemented at Bayern.
“[Mourinho] puts out a winning team, it doesn’t matter if it’s done with nice football or not, ” said the Dutch winger. “The philosophy at Bayern is to win games by playing nice football.”
Did you know?
Louis van Gaal won the Champions League in 1995 with Ajax while Jose Mourinho was triumphant in 2004 with FC Porto
Mourinho has remained largely silent in reaction to the comments, the Inter manager instead preferring to deflect attention from his team’s preparations for the final by commenting on speculation linking him to the Real Madrid job.
Both Bayern Munich and Inter Milan have already won their respective league and domestic cup competitions, meaning that a treble is on the cards for both finalists.
