Ian Holloway: I’m glad I’m not facing Liverpool’s Sturridge & Suárez

Ian Holloway has jokingly admitted he’s glad that he doesn’t have to face Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suárez – but has backed his Crystal Palace side to nullify the pair’s threat.

Sturridge, 23, netted the opener at the Stadium of Light last week before the England international went on to create Suárez’s two goals in a 3-1 victory over Sunderland.

Liverpool’s strike partnership, dubbed SAS, have scored a combined 31 goals since Sturridge sealed a £12m move to the Merseyside outfit from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

With Palace boasting the second-worst defensive record in the Premier League, the Reds pair will be salivating at the chance to add to their respective goal tallies at Anfield on Saturday.

When asked how he planned to counter their threat, Holloway joked: “Me personally? No. I’m glad I’m not out there. Can my team? Yes.”

He added: “We’re working on it. We’ve got make sure that we can manage the threat of that attack that they’ve got – with Victor Moses also floating around the place.”

However, Holloway vowed his Palace side would also show an adventurous streak as the 50-year-old looks to replicate Blackpool’s 2-1 win at Anfield in October 2010.

He continued: “But we’ve got to say, ‘How can we counter-attack and throw a punch?’

“Unless you try and knock someone out, you’ve got no chance of winning a fight. So that’s what we’ve got to do.”
