Ian Holloway has backed Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge to become an England star in the future.

The 23-year-old striker has already scored five Premier League goals this season as the Reds forward continues to thrive following his £12m move from Chelsea in January.

Sturridge missed England’s World Cup qualifiers last month due to injury, but Palace manager Holloway is confident the Liverpool striker will become a Three Lions regular.

“They’ve got a different balance there,” Holloway told a pre-match news conference on Thursday.

“Daniel Sturridge has been completely sensational. He’s got his focus and clarity. It’s great to see. He’s English and going to be a star in the future.

“Obviously with [Luis] Suarez as well and the way they can play the ball, it’ll be tough for us. It’s something we’re looking forward to.”

Holloway masterminded Blackpool’s 2-1 victory over the Reds in the Premier League when the 50-year-old last made the trip to Anfield exactly two years ago.

But the Palace manager believes the current Liverpool crop are a completely different entity to Roy Hodgson’s struggling side in October 2010.

“It’s very different. Their new manager has bedded in,” he added.

“Their manager Roy Hodgson hadn’t been there long when I went with Blackpool. They certainly weren’t with the point that they’ve got at the moment.

“It’s just a wonderful opportunity again to try and put right what’s been going wrong.”

Palace have already conceded 10 goals in the top-flight this season and face a strike partnership in Sturridge and Luis Suárez that ripped apart 20th-placed Sunderland last week.

The south London side have shown a rather more measured approach than Holloway’s Blackpool side, and the Palace boss used Derek Trotter’s famous expression when asked about the daunting trip to Anfield.

“He who dares wins,” Holloway continued. “That’s the approach I had when I took my Blackpool team was there.

“We’ve got to be daring. He’s got to learn what his new manager wants him to do to get picked.”
