Tim Bresnan believes Steve Finn is good enough to walk into any Test side in the world when fully fit, with the Middlesex bowler expected to face India next week.

Finn, who is recovering from a thigh injury, bowled in the adjacent nets as England limited Haryana to 172-4 on the second day of their final warm-up match ahead of next week’s first Test against India.

However, England did suffer a blow when Matt Prior was taken ill and Jonny Bairstow deputised as wicketkeeper, but Bresnan is confident the Sussex star will recover swiftly.

“Finny, when he’s fit and firing, should be able to walk into any Test side in the world, 90-plus mph coming from 6ft 7, so it’s a massive boost,” Bresnan said.

“There’s no reason why he shouldn’t be available for selection, he’s going to get some work and personally I think he’ll be fine.”

On Prior’s illness, Bresnan added: “I think he’s feeling a little better, I know how he feels, I had it a couple of days ago, but I’m sure it will be fine.”

Bresenan was pleased with his performance against Haryana, with the all-rounder taking two wickets to leave England 349 runs ahead of the final day.

“It’s difficult to take wickets over here anyway but that one seems to be a different league in batter-friendly,” added Bresnan.

“I’ve bowled pretty well, got a few wickets, got a few runs in the first game so I think I’ve got a good chance.”
