Is Klaas-Jan Hunterlaar’s ‘Mr Miyagi’ the best World Cup goal celebration?

Netherlands international Klaas-Jan Huntelaar posts his Karate Kid tribute on Facebook - is it the best goal celebration of World Cup?

James Rodriguez may be leading the race for the goal of the World Cup, but Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is the standout contender for the best goal celebration in Brazil.

The Netherlands substitute showed nerves of steel to dispatch a 93rd-minute penalty to fire Louis van Gaal’s men into the quarter-finals courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Mexico on Sunday afternoon.

The Schalke 04 man paid his own tribute to Karate Kid as he launched himself at the corner flag, having teed up Galatasaray midfielder Wesley Sneijder for the equaliser after Giovani dos Santos’s 48th-minute strike.

Of course, Huntelaar could have also drawn inspiration from manager Van Gaal, who displayed his own karate kick during Ajax’s Champions League final victory over AC Milan in 1995.

Rodriguez’s wonder goal in a 2-0 victory over Uruguay was breath-taking, but Colombia’s celebration wasn’t bad against Japan after Juan Cuadrado dispatched a penalty in the 4-1 win.
