Jamie Carragher says Liverpool are back in charge of their top-four fate after Emre Can’s sensational winner in a 1-0 victory over Watford.

Liverpool suffered a blow in the first half when Brazil international Philippe Coutinho was forced off with an injury on Monday night.

Adam Lallana made his long-awaited return to first-team action to replace Coutinho and came close to breaking the deadlock but his sumptuous volley hit the woodwork.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder played a small role in Emre Can’s stunning overhead kick in added time at the end of the first half at Vicarage Road.

The Germany international managed to steer a scintillating scissor kick past Heurelho Gomes after Lucas Leiva picked out Can with a ball into the Watford area.

Lallana wasted a chance to extend the home side’s lead in the second half before Sebastian Prödl hit the woodwork on the stroke of full-time.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Liverpool’s performance in their 1-0 win against Watford at Vicarage Road, Carragher said:

“It’s a huge win capitalizing on the teams around them last weekend. Liverpool have got it back in their own hands.”
