Javier Hernández heaped praise on Sir Alex Ferguson after the Manchester United manager ended his 26-year reign with a thrilling 5-5 draw at West Bromwich.

The 71-year-old will be replaced by David Moyes at Old Trafford on 1 July after the Everton boss agreed a six-year deal with the Premier League champions.

And Mexico striker Hernández, who Ferguson brought to the club back in 2010, was full of praise for his departing manager after Sunday’s draw at The Hawthorns.

“The impact Sir Alex has had on me is massive. He gave me this big chance to play at the biggest club in the world. He has taught me a lot and I only have thankful words for him,” Hernández told MUTV.

“It [Ferguson’s retirement] is not only a loss for the British fans but he has changed football across the world. He has been here for 26 years and made the impossible dream come true.”

Hernández also paid tribute to Paul Scholes, who played his last game for the Red Devils on Sunday before hanging up his playing boots.

He added: “And what can I say about Paul Scholes? All the players say the same thing about him – he’s an incredible player and team-mate, and the class and talent he has is unbelievable.”
