John Barnes predicts where Man United will finish this season
John Barnes feels that Manchester United will be one of the main contenders for a top-four finish despite their stuttering start
John Barnes is tipping Manchester United to finish in the top four this season.
The Red Devils have endured a stuttering start to life under new boss Jose Mourinho following his appointment as the club’s new manager in the summer.
However, Mourinho’s men have found some form in recent weeks and made it back to back wins in the Premier League with victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday night.
Manchester United are currently in sixth place in the Premier League table and six points adrift of the top four heading into this weekend’s round of fixtures.
However, Liverpool and England legend Barnes feels that the Red Devils have been performing well in recent weeks, and is tipping Manchester United to finish in the top four this season.
“Manchester United have been doing OK and playing quite well. If they get the results, they can climb into the top four,” said Barnes, speaking in an exclusive interview with The Sport Review.
“It’s a transitional period for Manchester United. They are a good side, they’ve had more shots than anyone, they’ve been playing well and [just] haven’t got the results. I expect them to make a push, I think they’ll do well.”
Asked if Manchester United can finish in the top four this season, Barnes replied: “Absolutely, because they’re not far from the top four and they are a good side. They can score goals and are strong at the back.
“Yes, things haven’t gone that well for them but they’re still within striking distance. I expect them to make a push for the top four.”
Manchester United are currently preparing for their trip to West Brom in the Premier League on Saturday night.
The Red Devils finished fifth and won the FA Cup under Louis van Gaal last season.
