John Obi Mikel has backed Chelsea’s summer signings to fire the Blues to silverware this season.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has snapped up Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa, former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, Mario Pasalic and Brazil full-back Filipe Luis.

You always expect to win trophies every year so I’m sure the new players that have come in will help us win more trophies

The Blues finished in third place last season and failed to win any of their three cup competitions, losing to Atletico in the Champions League last four.

And Mikel, who helped Nigeria reach the World Cup knockout stage last month, backed Mourinho’s new signings to help Chelsea improve in the coming seasons.

“The character and the belief that we have in this team, from the players that have been here a long time, I’m sure that will transform into the new players,” Mikel told Chelsea’s website.

“It’s always a big pressure playing for this club. You always expect to win trophies every year so I’m sure the new players that have come in will help us win more trophies.”
