Alvaro Negredo scored a first-half winner as Manchester City edged to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on Boxing Day.

Reds midfielder Philippe Coutinho gave the visitors a 24th-minute lead but Vincent Kompany and Alvaro Negredo overturned Liverpool’s advantage before half-time.
