Jonny Evans criticises ‘sloppy’ Manchester United

Jonny Evans admits Manchester United were made to pay for their “sloppiness” in possession after Newcastle sent the Red Devils crashing to consecutive Premier League defeats.

Yohan Cabaye’s second-half goal handed the Magpies their first win at Old Trafford since 1972 and condemned United to another loss after Wednesday’s surprise 1-0 defeat by Everton, leaving David Moyes’ men in ninth place in the table, 12 points behind leaders Arsenal.

Defender Evans feels that the defending champions were unable to click into gear throughout the game and lacked creativity throughout.

“If you look back at the game, we lacked a bit of sharpness in our passing,” Evans told MUTV.

“We were sloppy in possession which allowed Newcastle to get control of the game. When we were going forward, the lack of sharpness in our passing stopped us from creating much up front.

“Usually whenever we’re chasing a goal at Old Trafford, especially at the Stretford End, we usually put teams under an enormous amount of pressure, but we didn’t produce that on Saturday.

“It’s disappointing, especially after losing in midweek. It’s not often we lose two games on the run at home like that.”
