Jose Mourinho confirms Man United star will miss start of season
Jose Mourinho reveals that Nemanja Matic is set to miss the start of the season for Man United

Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Nemanja Matic will miss the start of the season with Manchester United after undergoing surgery.
The Serbia international was in action for his national team at the World Cup this summer and was given an extended summer holiday following his participation at the tournament.
Matic then joined Manchester United’s pre-season tour of the United States earlier this month but Mourinho has now confirmed that the 29-year-old left to undergo surgery.
The operation now means that the midfielder is likely to miss the start of the season, Mourinho revealed.
Speaking in a news conference after Manchester United’s 4-1 loss to Liverpool FC on Saturday, Mourinho said: “Matic arrived from the World Cup, holiday, direct to surgery because something happened in the World Cup.
“He has had surgery. He is out for the start of the season. He came from the World Cup with the injury and the time he had to rest on holiday was not enough to resolve the problem.
“I don’t know how long he will be out for.”
Manchester United are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title next season as they look to try and bounce back from their trophyless campaign last term.
The Red Devils have signed three players so far this summer after having finished second in the table last term.
However, they are still believed to be on the lookout for further new recruits ahead of Mourinho’s third campaign in charge of the Red Devils.
Manchester United have not won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign back in 2013.
