Jose Mourinho: Dummies could score against my Chelsea team

Jose Mourinho has criticised Chelsea’s leaky defence by claiming that even “dummies” could score against his side from corners.

The Blues have conceded six goals in their last two Premier League games, including three in the surprise defeat by Stoke City on Saturday.

And the Chelsea boss, whose side are third in the table and five points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal, admits that the west Londoners must improve their defensive displays.

“We are creating a lot, we are playing a lot of nice football but we have to finish off opponents,” said Mourinho, whose Chelsea team host Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League on Wednesday.

“In this moment if you train defensive corners against the dummies, I think one dummy will score.

“All the rebounds go to the opponents, so I think they will go to the dummies too.”

Mourinho also moved to clarify his post-match comments in the wake of Saturday’s loss at the Britannia Stadium after he was quoted as saying that his side were “in trouble” in the title race.

The Portuguese coach insisted that he was referring specifically to Chelsea’s performance against the Potters and not their overall situation.

“I don’t remember the words. No. If we are in trouble, there are 17 teams in more trouble than us,” he said.

“The team that played in the first half [against Stoke] has to be winning 4-0 and at half time we were 1-1. Why? Because we did not score the goals we should and conceded from a mistake, so yes we were in trouble.”

He added: “I think this league is wonderful. Everybody around Europe must be very jealous about [our league]. We don’t know the first, the second, the relegation.

“That gives everybody the chance to be in the fight for their objectives. We are not in trouble because we are there.”
