Mourinho: I found out Hazard was in France when I saw him on TV
Jose Mourinho jokes he found out Eden Hazard had travelled to France when he saw the Chelsea man on television on Sunday
Jose Mourinho has revealed that he found out Eden Hazard had travelled to France to watch Lille when he saw the Chelsea midfielder on his television on Sunday night.
The Belgium international was dropped for the west London side’s midweek Champions League clash against the Bundesliga outfit after missing training on Monday.
The 22-year-old failed to return to the club’s Cobham training ground after losing his passport during a trip to France to watch his former side Lille play Monaco on Sunday night.
And Mourinho felt Hazard should have been recuperating following the club’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle United on Saturday ahead of their clash against Schalke in Europe later that week.
“I think they have to be sensible and understand the moments when you have a game two days after, you don’t leave your home and your resting period unless you really need to do it for a special family reasons.
“To go and see friends and a football match, I don’t think is a reason to leave.
“No [he didn’t inform me]. I found out when I watched on tv the match. When they kick-off and he was waving…”
Mourinho admitted he had taken a risk not selecting Hazard for the crucial Schalke clash.
“I have to assume it was a bit of a risk not to select him for the last match, in pure football terms, because he could’ve helped us win an important match.
“But sometimes as a manager you have to take risk if I feel consequences for the group are very important and this is an important decision.”
