Jose Mourinho: This is what I really think about Man United reaching EFL Cup final

Jose Mourinho insisted he was happy that Manchester United reached the EFL Cup final despite losing 2-1 to Hull City in the second leg of their last-four clash on Thursday night.

The Red Devils were looking to reach the first final under their new manager after the 20-time English champions were 2-0 winners against Hull in the first leg at Old Trafford thanks to goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini.

However, Hull were offered hope of an unlikely comeback after Marcos Rojo was penalised for holding Harry Maguire in the penalty area and Tom Huddlestone emphatically dispatched his spot-kick.

Manchester United levelled on the night thanks to Paul Pogba’s close-range finish before Oumar Niasse netted a late winner.

Speaking at his post-match media conference after Manchester United set up an EFL Cup final with Southampton at Wembley next month, Mourinho discussed his emotions surrounding the result.

“I feel happy. We got to Wembley. We had a difficult draw, difficult opponents, difficult matches but we did it. We are there,” Mourinho said.

“We beat three Premier League teams, which is not an easy run to be in the final. We started the game and the game was in the pocket, we were completely in control and then something happened to open the game and we then had to cope with the game being open. We did that well.”

Manchester United will host Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup fifth round at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
