Jose Mourinho: This is what will happen when Arsene Wenger leaves Arsenal

Jose Mourinho believes that Arsene Wenger will be the last Premier League manager to stay at a single club for more than 10 years.

The Arsenal manager’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months due to the Gunners’ stuttering form in the Premier League.

Arsenal were beaten by West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday as they lost their fourth game in five Premier League outings.

The Gunners have also been dumped out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, and Wenger’s future remains a source of speculation due to the fact that his contract is set to expire in the summer.

Wenger is the longest-serving manager in England, having taken over at Highbury back in 1996 but it remains to be seen whether he will still be at the club next season.

And Mourinho feels that the culture of longevity in football management is now over.

Asked if he thinks another manager will stay at a club as long as Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Mourinho told France Football: “I don’t think so. Wenger will be the last one.

“When he leaves Arsenal, we won’t see again, in the decade that follows, a manager staying in the same club for more than seven years, ok, maximum ten.

“It has become impossible. Not just because of the profile of the clubs but also because of the profile of the managers.

“I have doubts about the new generation of managers, about how they have been trained, their ability to integrate themselves into all aspects of a club. You are going to need personalities with enormous qualities.”
