Jose Mourinho vows to end Barcelona domination

Jose Mourinho has vowed to end Barcelona’s domination of Spanish football – but has warned Real Madrid’s demanding fans not to expect miracles from him.

The Portuguese coach, who stepped into Manuel Pellegrini’s shoes at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer after guiding Inter Milan to an historic treble last season, is confident his new side can knock Barca off their La Liga perch.

Real, who host Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, are currently fourth in La Liga, one point behind Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions and three behind pace-setters Valencia.

“The supporters demand a lot, the press they demand a lot, I work hard so I can do things,” Mourinho, 47, told the BBC’s Football Focus. “They think the coach is Harry Potter, I’m not Harry Potter.

“Success for me would be in the four years of my contract to make the 10th Champions League for the club and stop the Barca domination.

“I think I find a way to stop them in our matches but the problem is that the championship is not about two matches, it’s about 38.”

Asked if Real were the biggest club in the world, Mourinho added: “I think so, amazing club, you feel it in every moment.

“I used to say when we arrive in any airport in the world or even in Spain it looks like the Beatles arriving in San Francisco in the 60s.”
