Juan Mata says Chelsea must be consistent throughout the “dark month” of November and Christmas period if the Blues want to win the Premier League title.

Jose Mourinho’s men have the chance to move to the top of the table with victory over Newcastle United in Saturday’s early kick-off before current leaders Arsenal face Liverpool this evening.

Mata believes Chelsea have allowed previous title bids to unravel in November due to a lack of consistency, and the Spaniard urged the west London side to maintain their winning mentality.

“In November in previous years it was a dark month for us and I don’t know why,” Mata told the London Evening Standard.

“If we are to fight for the title, then we have to be more consistent than we have been in the last few seasons.

“November and December for me are the main months if you want to win the title because it’s a period full of games.

“You have to be ready to play every three or four days and if you’re strong enough to get in a good position come January and February, than you will
challenge for the championship.

“We have won six games in a row which is very important and have shown that we can beat top sides.

“We beat Manchester City and Arsenal this week and that means we can play against big teams. But it’s important for us to keep this winning mentality until the end.”
