Juan Mata congratulates the ‘superb’ Gareth Bale on PFA awards double
Juan Mata praises Gareth Bale after Tottenham star scoops both the PFA young player and senior player of the year awards

Juan Mata praised the “amazing” Gareth Bale after the Tottenham winger scooped both the PFA young player and senior player of the year awards on Sunday.
Bale beat off competition from Chelsea duo Mata and Eden Hazard to land the top prize at a glitzy awards ceremony in London after an impressive campaign for Spurs.
And Mata, who was named alongside Hazard and Bale in the Premier League team of the year for 2012-13, feels that the 23-year-old Welshman was a worthy winner of both accolades.
“Of course, congratulations to Gareth Bale for being named player of the year and young player of the year,” Mata wrote on his blog on grada360.com.
“He’s a superb player with amazing skills and he’s only 23 years old.”
He added: “I feel very proud and grateful about my nomination and for being part of the Premier League team of the year.”
Mata, who turned 25 on Sunday, also reflected on a special birthday after he helped Chelsea to a 2-0 win over Swansea City at Stamford Bridge as the Blues moved up to third place in the Premier League table.
“I couldn’t have thought about a better way to celebrate it than a victory and the company of my family and friends,” the Spaniard continued.
“We managed to beat a competitive Swansea, a team with some friends of mine like Pablo and Michu.
“[They are] three key points in our aim to be in the next Champions League, even more after Arsenal and Tottenham’s draws [against Manchester United and Wigan].”
