Juan Mata one of world’s best, declares Man United’s David Moyes
David Moyes describes Juan Mata as one of the best players in the world after Manchester United sign midfielder for £37.1m
David Moyes could not hide his delight after Manchester United completed the signing of Juan Mata from Chelsea for a club-record fee of £37.1m.
The 25-year-old midfielder underwent a medical in Manchester on Saturday after arriving at the Red Devils’ training base by helicopter.
And Moyes is confident that the Spain international will prove to be a success at Old Trafford in seasons to come after Mata officially signed for the defending champions.
I have been impressed with the excitement he has shown to be part of the new Manchester United
“Juan is one of the finest playmakers in the game today and it’s a real pleasure to have secured his signature,” said Moyes.
“He’s been instrumental in Chelsea’s recent success, with a notable 28 assists and 32 goals in his last two Premier League seasons.
“I have been impressed with the excitement he has shown to be part of the new Manchester United.
“I know our fans have admired Juan for some time now – he has always played well against us – and I know they will be delighted to see him in the red of United, starting on Tuesday.”
Mata, who joined Chelsea from Valencia for £23.5m in 2011, has been Chelsea’s player of the year in each of the last two seasons.
He scored 32 goals for the west Londoners and made over 130 appearances but has failed to cement a regular starting spot under new Blues manager Jose Mourinho this season.
