Juventus playmaker Diego is set to join VFL Wolfsburg after successfully completing a medical with the Bundesliga side, according to reports in Germany.

The Brazilian international joined the Turin club from Werder Bremen last summer for €24.5m, but he failed to settle in Serie A and has been recently linked with a return to Germany.

Juve’s recent acquisition of Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani on a year-long loan appears to have spelled the end of Diego’s time in Italy, with newly-appointed Wolfsburg manager Steve McClaren understood to be a long-term fan of the 25-year-old.

It is believed Juventus will receive a fee of €15 million for the player, who is set to sign a four-year contract at the Volkswagen Arena.

Diego became one of the most sought-after players in Europe following an impressive three seasons with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga between 2006 and 2009.

He was seen at Wolfsburg’s training ground on Wednesday night as he arrived to complete his medical. German newspaper Bild reports that he will have his first training session with the club on Friday.
