Kaka set for record switch to Real Madrid

It appears Kaka is on the verge of making the trip over the Mediterranean to Madrid.

The deal is believed to be costing Madrid around £56 million, surpassing the transfer record set by Real in 2001, when they signed Zinedine Zidane from Juventus for £47 million.

During the January transfer window, the Brazilian hit the headlines as Manchester City’s wealthy owners attempted to lure the creative Kaka to the Eastlands. City were willing to blow a staggering £110 million on the 27-year-old.

Italian Prime Minister and AC Milan chairman, Silvio Berlusconi, was willing to allow his prized asset to leave, citing the offer as ‘too good to turn down.’ This sparked the Rossoneri faithful to stage protests at the proposed sale of their icon.

A chord was struck. Kaka decided to turn down a mammoth contract offer – a reported £550,000 a week. He disclosed to the media that he wanted to ‘grow old at Milan’, one day captaining the club. Manchester City were left bemused as they missed out on their number one target.

Kaka is now set to move to Real Madrid, once again stealing the football headlines. It will be the biggest transfer story of the summer as Madrid’s newly appointed president, Florentino Perez, sets about recreating the Galactico’s.

According to reports circling in Spain, Real have reached an agreement with AC Milan for the playmaker, and have requested a medical to be performed. By all accounts it seems all but certain that Kaka will be gracing La Liga come the start of the 2009/10 campaign.

Indeed, it will come as good news to Madrid fans, as Barcelona are the dominant force in Spanish football right now. The addition of Kaka would be massive boost to Madrid, and a few more quality signings should help them make up the gap between them and the Catalan giants.
