Kieran Gibbs admits Arsenal are “desperate” to win a trophy next season after the Gunners clinched a fourth-place finish on Sunday.
The north Londoners’ 1-0 victory at Newcastle United was enough to pip local rivals Tottenham to fourth by a single point on a dramatic final day of the season.
The Gunners strung together an impressive run of results to win eight of their last 10 league games and move up the table.
And defender Gibbs insists that Arsenal’s focus next season must be on ending their eight-year wait for a major trophy.
“Having been more involved this season, this is the strongest I have felt about the team,” Gibbs told Arsenal’s website. “I believe strongly in this team now.
“You have seen the quality throughout the season. We haven’t shown it consistently enough in the cups and the Premier League but you have seen many glimpses of what the team is capable of.
“We have played against the best and performed. Next season we have to focus on every detail and be professional in every single way so we give ourselves the best chance to produce something because we are desperate to get a trophy under our belts.”
