Kieran Gibbs: Arsenal expecting to win a trophy this season

Kieran Gibbs believes that Arsenal are “expecting” to win a trophy this season following their impressive start.

The Gunners are currently a point clear at the top of the Premier League table as they look to win the top-flight title for the first time since 2004.

And left-back Gibbs admits that the main goal for Arsenal is to end their long wait for a major trophy.

Asked what constitutes a successful season for Arsenal, Gibbs told Sport magazine: “A trophy. That’s what everyone is waiting for and kind of expecting, so obviously we have to work as hard as we can to achieve that.”

“There is certainly a belief. We’re in January and we’re top of the league, so we have to take that as a huge positive and behave like we are [favourites] for the rest of the season. We have to remain positive.

“We’ve seen this season there are crazy results happening in the league. Anyone has a chance of beating anyone else on their day, so we know that there’s a long way to go. But we’re really happy to be part of it.”

Arsenal travel to Aston Villa on Monday night in their next Premier League game.
