Lambert needs to start alongside Balotelli, says Liverpool legend
Liverpool are a bigger threat with two strikers playing up front, says Jamie Carragher
Jamie Carragher believes Brendan Rodgers should start Rickie Lambert alongside Mario Balotelli for their trip to Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Reds struggled to break down Hull City at Anfield last weekend as the Tigers managed to hold Liverpool to a goalless draw.
It’s an extra goal threat and you’re getting two strikers on the pitch

Balotelli, who moved to Liverpool from AC Milan in a £16m deal this summer, struggled to lead the line until Lambert’s introduction.
And former Liverpool centre-half Carragher feels the Italy international needs to play with a strike partner.
“I would [start Lambert], it doesn’t necessarily mean you take Balotelli out of the team,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“I think they’ve linked up together [against Hull] and you remember Liverpool last season, Suarez and Sturridge, there not in the same category, but a lot of the season they didn’t play two right up front, one of them would play to the side and that’s what you’re getting with Balotelli, you’ve seen him do it for Man City.
“It’s an extra goal threat and you’re getting two strikers on the pitch.”
