Charlie Nicholas believes that Arsenal could be set to sell as many as seven players in the summer transfer window.

The north London side are aiming to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on a top-four finish in the Premier League, as Arsene Wenger’s men ended up fifth in the table last weekend.

There is bound to be plenty of speculation about which players Arsene Wenger could look to bring to The Emirates this summer as he look to build a squad capable of challenging for the title next term.

However, former Arsenal man Nicholas feels that the focus should be first placed on getting rid of a number of players before looking at potential signings.

Nicholas told Sky Sports before the FA Cup final: “I’m hearing that Per Mertersacker might go into the coaching staff, then I’d let David Ospina, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs, Francis Coquelin and Olivier Giroud go to build up the transfer kitty.

“We need to get away from the one or two changes, it has to be six or seven players moving on and at least four coming in.

“Wenger has had one of the strongest groups he’s had but he’s not brought the best out of them, so they need to make big changes.”
