Ian Wright is optimistic that Arsenal majority owner Stan Kroenke could back Arsene Wenger in the summer transfer window.

The Gunners have endured a largely disappointing campaign under Wenger after finishing in fifth place in the Premier League table.

Arsenal missed out on a top-four finish after Liverpool were 3-0 winners against Middlesbrough on the final day of the 2016-17 season.

The north London side crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage for the seventh successive season under Wenger.

Wenger won his seventh FA Cup crown on Saturday afternoon thanks to a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley.

Arsenal signed five players in the summer transfer window in 2016 but Wenger’s additions failed to have a big impact over the course of the campaign.

Speaking to the Sun Goals podcast about potential investment in new playing staff this summer, Wright said:

“I’d love to see Stan Kroenke have an ephinany and say he has not been backing Arsene Wenger. Let Stan back him. Ask him what players he wants and go get them.”
