Newcastle United to rival Arsenal in race to sign 20-year-old talent – report
Newcastle are in the race to sign Henry Onyekuru with Arsenal this summer, according to reports
Newcastle United are set to rival Arsenal for the signature of Henry Onyekuru this summer, according to reports.
ScoreNigeria, as reported by the Daily Express, is reporting that the Magpies are keen to try and sign the 20-year-old, who has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks.
The same story claims that Onyekuru will fly to the United Kingdom on Monday to hold talks with interested clubs about a possible transfer move.
A source is quoted as saying in the story: “Newcastle United have joined in the race to sign Henry [Onyekuru].
“They contacted his agency Mercato on Wednesday and offered to pay him £36,000 a week.
“The talk is on-going between them and the agent.”
There were reports in the British media late last month that Arsenal had entered into discussions with Belgian side KAS Eupen to sign Onyekuru but there has not yet been any official confirmation from the Gunners.
Arsenal have so far made just one summer signing after the Gunners confirmed left-back Sead Kolasinac will joins from Schalke on a free transfer on 1 July.
The north London side finished fifth and won the FA Cup last season.
