Arsenal urged to sign 18-year-old: Striker will be worth £150m in five seasons
Ray Wilkins has encouraged Arsenal to sign Kylian Mbappe from AS Monaco in the summer transfer window
Ray Wilkins believes signing Kylian Mbappe would represent great business for Arsenal.
L’Equipe claimed on Thursday evening that Arsenal had made a huge offer to sign the exciting France international from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco this summer.
However, BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein revealed on Friday that Arsenal had denied making an £87m bid to sign the exciting teenager.
Arsenal coach Robert Pires claimed last month that the Gunners would “definitely” complete a deal to bring the Monaco starlet to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Now, former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins has urged Arsenal to consider a big-money deal to sign Mbappe from the Ligue 1 champions, adding that the Gunners would be in a position to sell Mbappe to La Liga giants Barcelona in a £150m in five seasons.
Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, Wilkins encouraged the FA Cup winners to complete a deal for Mbappe.
“If that’s the going rate for an 18-year-old, you’ve actually got a sell-on,” Wilkins said.
“He could play for you for five years and still only be 23, then he could go to Barcelona for £150m, so that’s not bad business.
“If he wins you the Premier League, that’s good business and that’s the way it has to be.”
Arsenal signed Mesut Ozil in a club-record deal from Real Madrid in the 2013 summer transfer window.
