Insider gives latest twist in Arsenal’s £87m offer for Kylian Mbappe
BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein reveals that Arsenal have denied making a huge offer to sign Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe
Arsenal have denied submitting an £87m offer for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe, according to BBC Sport reporter David Ornstein.
L’Equipe claimed on Thursday evening that Arsenal had made a huge offer to sign the exciting France international from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco this summer.
Mbappe scored 15 times in 27 appearances in the 2016-17 season to help Monaco to win the title ahead of cash-rich rivals Paris Saint-Germain.
The 18-year-old scored six times in 12 games to help Monaco reach the Champions League final before losing 4-2 to Serie A giants Juventus over two legs.
The Telegraph reported on Friday morning that Monaco had rejected Arsenal’s audacious bid to sign the recently-capped France international.
However, BBC Sport’s Ornstein revealed later on Friday that Arsenal have denied making an £87m offer to sign one of Europe’s most-exiting talents.
Ornstein wrote on Twitter: “BBC online entry miswritten by desk – I didn’t confirm/deny story, merely said Arsenal are denying it, now corrected”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table behind Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Liverpool in the top-four race.
