Insider questions Arsene Wenger about potential Arsenal signing
Raphael Honigstein questions how Arsene Wenger would fit Sead Kolasinac into the Arsenal team
Raphael Honigstein has questioned whether Sead Kolasinac will fit into Arsenal’s new system.
The Schalke defender is being heavily tipped to complete a free transfer to the north London side in the 2017 summer transfer window.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina international is rated as one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga.
Kolasinac would be a natural replacement for 31-year-old Nacho Monreal, while Kieran Gibbs is facing an uncertain future at Arsenal with 12 months remaining on his current deal.
However, Arsene Wenger switched to a 3-4-3 formation with great success in the second half of the 2016-17 season.
Speaking to The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast, Bundesliga expert Honigstein questioned whether Kolasinac would fit into the new Arsenal formation.
“I’m not sure whether he will work in Arsenal’s new wing-back formation. I am not convinced,” Honigstein said.
“You need more midfielders or natural flying full-backs. He is a bit more defensive minded.”
Arsenal won the FA Cup last month thanks to a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea.
The north London side finished in fifth place in the Premier League table behind Liverpool.
The Gunner crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage in March after a 10-2 loss to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
