Eden Hazard: Antonio Conte made Chelsea do this for the first time
The Chelsea forward explains what Antonio Conte did differently at the Premier League champions this season
Eden Hazard revealed that Antonio Conte has put a greater emphasis on gym work than Chelsea’s previous managers.
The Italian coach took over the reins at the west London side at the end of the 2015-16 season after a disappointing tenth-place finish following a disastrous defence of their Premier League crown under Jose Mourinho and Guus Hiddink.
Conte, though, wasted no time overhauling the Chelsea squad and rekindling the title-winning quality in his top players despite his lack of experience in the Premier League.
Chelsea became the first title winners to record 30 victories in a season as the Blues finished seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the title race.
And Hazard revealed that Conte placed an emphasis on gym work unlike the Belgium international’s previous managers.
“He’s a great manager. When we came back in the pre-season, it was intense, and if we won this season, it’s because of that,” Hazard told The Strait Times.
“We practised a lot of tactics, also (worked on) fitness and running. For me, it was the first time in England where we worked a lot in the gym. And yeah, we want to look forward (to next season) with him.”
Chelsea have won the title twice in the past three seasons but were unable to add the FA Cup to their collection after a 2-1 loss to Arsenal in the final last month.
