Paul Merson: This Chelsea midfielder has made massive difference to Antonio Conte
The former Arsenal midfielder names Chelsea star N'Golo Kante as his Premier League player of the season
Paul Merson believes N’Golo Kante has proven a decisive player for Antonio Conte as Chelsea close in on the Premier League title.
The France international finished the 2015-16 Premier League season as a champion after Kante helped Leicester City to win the title under Claudio Ranieri in his first campaign in England.
Kante made the decision to switch to Chelsea from Leicester in last summer’s transfer window following the appointment of Conte as the west London club’s new manager.
The 26-year-old has scored one goal in 27 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League season so far and has only missed one game in Chelsea’s title challenge so far.
Kante has only scored against Manchester United in the FA Cup and the Premier League in his Chelsea career to date.
Speaking to Sky Sports about Chelsea’s home clash against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, Merson heaped praise on Kante:
“For me, N’Golo Kante is the player of the season. He’s been a massive, massive difference to them.”
