Diego Costa sends message to Romelu Lukaku about potential Chelsea transfer
The Chelsea striker would welcome the return of Romelu Lukaku to Stamford Bridge this summer
Diego Costa has welcomed reports linking Romelu Lukaku with a return to Chelsea in the summer.
The Belgium forward is reported to be Antonio Conte’s top target ahead of the 2017 summer transfer window following a prolific season at Goodison Park.
Lukaku scored 24 times in 37 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season to finish behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the race to secure the golden boot.
The 24-year-old striker moved to Everton in a £27m deal from Chelsea in the 2014 summer transfer window after he failed to secure guaranteed first-team football.
Chelsea striker Costa scored 20 times in 35 games to help Antonio Conte to win the Premier League title in his first season in charge at Stamford Bridge.
The Spain international has been linked with a potential move to China in the summer, while Atletico Madrid are thought to be interested in re-signing the controversial striker.
Costa, though, would welcome Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge despite putting his place in the Chelsea team in doubt.
“I do not know – that’s a decision for the club,” Costa told Evening Standard.
“Of course Lukaku is a very big player who played an impressive season. I hope he can sign at Chelsea because it’s a unique club.”
