Richard Keys sends warning to Liverpool chief after big summer signings
The beIN Sports presenter has a message for the new Liverpool chief-executive about signings
Richard Keys has warned Liverpool’s new chief executive Peter Moore that the Reds need to match their rivals’ spending or risk going backwards.
Moore started his new role earlier this week after the former Microsoft vice-president insisted that Liverpool wouldn’t be tempted to spend £100m to match their title rivals.
Manchester City already spent £80m on Monaco midfielder Bernardo Silva and Benfica goalkeeper Ederson this summer, while Benjamin Mendy is thought to be close to a £40m switch to The Etihad.
Liverpool, on the other hand, have only completed a deal to sign England Under-21 international Dominic Solanke on a free transfer from Premier League champions Chelsea.
Former Sky Sports presenter and current beIN Sports anchor Keys issued a stern warning to the Liverpool chief executive Moore about the club’s spending this summer.
Keys wrote on Twitter: “Peter Moore says Liverpool won’t be ‘spending big’. If they don’t match what’s happening they’ll be going backwards. You can’t stand still.”
Liverpool finished in the Premier League’s top four in the 2016-17 season to secure a much-anticipated return to the Champions League next term.
