Gabriele Marcotti’s response when asked whether Liverpool will sign Benjamin Mendy
The ESPN reporter runs the rule over reports linking Liverpool with a move to sign Monaco left-back Benjamin Mendy
Benjamin Mendy is one of the players who could leave AS Monaco in the summer transfer window, according to Gabriele Marcotti.
Liverpool have been linked with a number of different left-backs already this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to improve his defensive options.
James Milner was used in an unorthodox left-back role throughout the 2016-17 season after Alberto Moreno fell out-of-favour under Klopp.
Liverpool have been linked with a big-money move to sign Monaco left-back Mendy in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Mendy has established himself as one of Europe’s most-exciting full-backs after helping Monaco to win Ligue 1 ahead of Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking to ESPN FC about the likelihood of Liverpool signing Mendy in the summer, respected ESPN and Times journalist Marcotti said:
“There are some people Monaco are willing to let go.
“Bakayoko is one. Mendy more than Sidibe. That’s it. They are shopping around to get the best offer.
“He’d be a good fit [for Liverpool].”
Mendy made five assists in 25 appearances in Ligue 1 in the 2016-17 season.
Monaco lost to Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals after an impressive run to the last four.
Mendy has been linked with Premier League side Manchester City.
